The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, April 16 through Monday, April 22. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, APRIL 22
Battalion 2: Quint 22 worked conducted company level training on aerial operations using local buildings.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 hosted boat operator training for Battalion 5 and battalion 2 crews.
6:01 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Quint 22, and BC5 responded for smoke inside a residence. On scene crews had haze coming from the AC vents. Crews isolated the problem to an AC unit on the roof.
SUNDAY, APRIL 21
E12, E27, E26 trained at RFTC tower covering 28’foot ladders, rescue and victim carry, lines aloft, stairwell and well hole stretch, below grade fires, and master stream appliances.
Battalion 5: Crews trained on above and below grade fire attack. They also trained on ladders and removing conscious and unconscious victims.
1:53 p.m. – Engine 27, Water Rescue 28, Water Rescue 29, Medic 1 and Battalion 5 responded to Woodward Reservoir for a person that had gone under the water and was missing. Crews arrived on scene and searched for over an hour. The victim was not located with these efforts and the Stanislaus County Dive team was called out. The victim was eventually found and was declared deceased.
SATURDAY, APRIL 20
Battalion 2: Crews packaged up their structure turnouts for their annual third-party inspection that will take place over the next two weeks.
Quint 22 trained with the Stokes basket and aerial operations.
Battalions 5: Engine 27 and Engine 28 trained on EMS protocols, and ladder and hose evolutions in Oakdale.
4:08 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 7, Battalion 5, Oak Valley Ambulance and CHP responded to a vehicle accident in front of Bel Passi Fields. A vehicle struck multiple parked vehicles. One minor injury was reported. CHP is investigating.
7:36 p.m. – Engine 29 and Battalion 5 responded with CalFire for reports of a vegetation fire on Highway 108 near Lancaster Road. Engine 29 located a burn pile and cancelled the response.
FRIDAY, APRIL 19
Tech Rescue companies strained on low angle rope rescue techniques at River Bluff Park in Ceres.
Engineer training continued at Station 17 with personnel covering various aspects of the position.
Battalion 2: E26 and fire prevention attended a College and Career Day at Riverbank High.
Battalion 5: Modesto Engine 29’s crew worked on station projects at Fire Station 29 in Knights Ferry that included spreading gravel in the parking area and fixing the cable fencing.
THURSDAY, APRIL 18
Prospective engineers continued training in the Engineers Academy.
Battalion 5: Members from the Modesto Fire Department paid respects to retired Oakdale Fire Chief Ken Johnson who had recently passed. Chief Johnson served the citizens of Oakdale for over 20 years.
Modesto Engine 28 conducted a fire presentation at a local Oakdale day care for the children.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17
Battalion 2: 7:06 a.m. – Engine 26, Quint 22, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident on Patterson at Snedigar Road. Engine 26 arrived to find a semi and SUV had collided. The semi ended up inside a residence after going through a power pole. One immediate and two delayed patients were treated.
Stanislaus crews finished up RT130 wildland refresher training at Woodward Reservoir.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 crews rotated through RT-130 throughout the day.
Engine 27 and Engine 28 performed training evolutions.
TUESDAY, APRIL 16
Battalion 2: Stanislaus Fire crews rotated through wildland refresher training with our colleagues at MST out at Woodward Reservoir.
Battalion 5: 1:35 a.m. – Engine 9 and Engine 26 responded to Terminal and Claribel for a vehicle accident. Engine 9 found a solo vehicle that had left the roadway, with the driver ejected. Engine 9 was able to provide patient care along with Oak Valley. Engine 26 was cancelled.
RT-130 training continued at Woodward Reservoir in Station 30’s area.
