Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 10-9-24

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Oct. 1 through Monday, Oct. 7. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, OCT. 7

Battalion 5: Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 29, and BC5 attended the FMA Training hosted by Engine 29’s crew at Horseshoe Recreation area. The focus of the training was on Wildland incidents that included fuel load, tactics, strategy, and radio communications.

 

SUNDAY, OCT. 6

A written exam was conducted for explorer candidates at the RFTC.

Battalion 2: 1:29 a.m. – Engine 26 responded to a fire alarm in the 2100 block of Patterson Road in Riverbank. Upon arrival they found a fire that had been extinguished by a fire sprinkler. Quint 22 was requested to assist with water removal.

Crews completed their Sunday EMS equipment checks.

Crews performed company level training.

Battalion 5: 2:40 p.m. – OES 4615 responded to a small vegetation fire on a property on Kennedy Road in Knights Ferry. The fire was extinguished quickly at one-eighth of an acre.

6:14 p.m. – Engine 28, E27, Q22 and BC5 were dispatched to a two-vehicle car accident with a pin-in on North Yosemite in Oakdale. Upon arrival E28 had one patient trapped in a white truck with major injuries and the driver of the other vehicle had minor injuries and had self-extricated. Crews worked for over 20 minutes to free the driver of the white truck. Both patients were transported to local hospitals via ambulance.

 

SATURDAY, OCT. 5

The Modesto Fire Department in cooperation with Modesto Junior College held the Women’s Empowerment Camp at the Regional Fire Training Center.

Battalion 2: Engine 26 participated in a public education event at the Home Depot in Riverbank.

Battalion 5: Battalion 5 crews conducted Saturday station maintenance in all stations.

11:07 a.m. – Engine 28 and Battalion 3 responded to an EMS call for a subject down in the 600 block of East F Street, Oakdale. Engine 28 arrived on scene and found an unresponsive patient. Engine 28 started CPR and Oak Valley Ambulance provided ALS care on scene. The patient was revived and transported to a local hospital for further care.

3:25 p.m. – Engine 26, E7, Q22 and BC5 responded to an oven fire in an apartment on Claus Road. The fire was extinguished by the occupants and E26 remained on scene for smoke removal.

 

FRIDAY, OCT. 4

Battalion 2: 10:49 a.m. – Engine 26 responded to High and Fifth Street for a smoke check. They arrived to find a fire in a homeless camp near the river bottom. With the assistance of Grass 27, the fire was contained to less than a quarter acre. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Battalion 5: 10:49 a.m. –Grass 27 and BC2 responded to assist at a vegetation fire in Riverbank. Crews extinguished and mopped up the debris and vegetation that was on fire.

1:54 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, and CalFire Engine 4471 responded to a fence and vegetation fire at Woodward Reservoir. The fire was contained, and one subject was apprehended by Stanislaus sheriff’s deputies. There were also several other small fires set by the subject in the area that crews extinguished. Cal Fire Prevention and Stanislaus Regional FIU are investigating.

 

THURSDAY, OCT. 3

Battalion 5: 3:45 a.m. – Grass 26, Engine 27 and Battalion 5 responded to a vegetation fire on Highway 108 and Adams Gravel Plant Road. Battalion 5 arrived on scene to a half-acre grass fire in the middle of a field. Crews were able to quickly contain the fire and remained on scene for roughly 90 minutes for mop up.

Modesto Engine 28 conducted hose/pump training within their FMA.

6:45 p.m. – Modesto Engine 3, Engine 27, Stanislaus Quint 22, and BC5 responded to a potential structure fire in the 2000 block of Stanislaus Street in Riverbank. Upon arrival there was nothing showing from a single-story house with bystanders stating the fire had been extinguished. Engine 27 confirmed the exterior fire was out with negative extension into the house; the remaining balance was cancelled.

 

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 2

Battalion 2: SCFPD Prevention and Engine 24 participated in a public education event.

Battalion 5: Crews performed apparatus checks and station maintenance.

Companies conducted training in their respective FMA’s.

Engine 27 assisted at Oakdale High School with the Fire ROP program.

10:15 a.m. – Engine 28, Engine 29 and Battalion 5 responded to Highway 108 and the County line for a vehicle accident to assist Tuolumne County. Crews arrived on scene with CalFire to a single vehicle rollover with two immediate patients. Both patients were transported by helicopter to area hospitals for treatment.

3:40 p.m. – Engine 7 was dispatched to an unknown type of fire in the 2100 block of Claribel Road. Engine 7 arrived to find large natural gas generator station adjacent to the MID substation with a generator on fire. Engine 7 upgraded the response (Engine 26, Truck 5, BC1 and Medic 1) and crews worked with the contractor to isolate the power/gas to the units and extinguished the fire.

 

TUESDAY, OCT. 1

Battalion 5: Crews worked on station and apparatus maintenance.

Engine 27 met with the Oakdale airport manager to set up training at the airport.
