Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 10-16-24

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Oct. 8 through Monday, Oct. 14. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, OCT. 14

The MST Training Division began the first day of the TDA academy at the Regional Fire Training Center.

Battalion 2: Engine 26 and Fire Prevention attended the Sierra House open house with Riverbank City Council member Luis Uribe.

Battalion 5: Truck 5 assisted the Oakdale High School’s Fire Science class. The students were shown the operation of the aerial ladder and were educated on the truck’s capabilities on emergency incidents.

 

SUNDAY, OCT. 13

Battalion 2: Battalion 2 crews completed Target Solutions.

Battalion 5: Battalion 5 stood by with Oakdale PD for a political rally and parade that was advertised on social media. There were no incidents reported during the event which included an estimated 100 vehicles.

5:23 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 7, and Battalion 5 responded to an injury vehicle accident on Roselle at Plainview. While enroute crews were advised this was a hit and run. E7 arrived on scene with CHP and Ambulance and advised there were minor injuries, and the balance could cancel.

 

SATURDAY, OCT. 12

Battalion 2: Station 26 completed a fire prevention inspection of Riverbank’s Cheese and Wine Festival. The pre-event safety inspection ensured that all participants had a safe experience.

Battalion 5: Crews rotated through the classroom at Station 28 as E9’s Captain Wallace conducted his FMA drill and presented Project Mayday.

9:31 a.m. – Engine 27 and BC5 responded to a vehicle fire on Highway 108 and Langworth. On arrival E27 found a car with the engine compartment on fire. Crews extinguished the fire and confined it to the engine.

10:52 a.m. – Engine 26, Brush 12 and BC5 were dispatched to assist Escalon on a vegetation fire just west of the railroad tracks near Santa Fe leading out of the city of Riverbank. E26 and B12 were assigned to Division Zulu and stopped the forward progress of the fire with a 700-foot progressive hose lay.

4:01 p.m. – Engine 28, E27, WT27, E26, E9, E23, WT23, Q22, BC5 and BC2 responded to a report of a working structure fire on River Road in Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene to find an exterior fire that extended into the residence. The fire was brought under control in 10 minutes and the damage was limited to the exterior and one room in the house. The fire is under investigation.

4:40 p.m. – E29, SQ11 and BC2 responded to a vehicle accident on Highway 108 near Mesa.

7:49 p.m. – G27, WT27 and BC5 arrived on scene to find a roadside grass fire on Langworth Road. Crews quickly stopped the fire from spreading to a nearby open field.

 

FRIDAY, OCT. 11

Battalion 2: 8:22 p.m. – Engine 23, Water Tender 23, Quint 22, Engine 15, and Battalion 2 assisted the Hughson Fire Protection District with a structure fire.

Battalion 5: Modesto Engine 28 attended the Cloverland Elementary School Jog-A-Thon event in Oakdale.

Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Chief 1, and BC5 attended the Steves Chevrolet First Responder Appreciation Luncheon in Oakdale.

 

THURSDAY, OCT. 10

Crews rotated through Quarterly EMS training at Station 22.

The Training Division prepped for upcoming training at Turlock Reservoir.

Battalion 2: Battalion 2 hosted a new fire dispatcher. She visited the stations to understand better the types of apparatus and how we set up a command post during an incident.

Battalion 5: Crews prepared for upcoming written tests.

 

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 9

Crews rotated through quarterly EMS training.

Battalion 2: Fire Prevention and Engine 26 participated in an international walk-to-school day with California Avenue Elementary School. The students were instructed on safe travel, whether walking or riding to school. Bike helmets and other prizes were awarded. Stanislaus County Safe Kids Program organized the event.

12:31 p.m. – Water Rescues 24, 28, and Engine 23 responded to an injured subject on an island in the Tuolumne River. Due to water levels and the patient’s condition, the decision was made for Stanislaus County Air 101 to land on the island and rescue the injured person. The Paramedic on Air 101 packaged the patient and flew to Waterford High School, where the ambulance awaited. The patient was then transported to a local trauma center.

Battalion 5: 1:17 a.m. – Brush 28, Engine 27, Brush and Water Tender 23, and Battalion 5 were dispatched to the 10000 block of Cleveland Avenue for a vegetation fire. Brush 28 reported a 200-foot-long roadside grass/eucalyptus tree fire. Crews worked for 20 minutes containing the fire and an hour mopping up. Engine 29 provided station coverage during the incident.

9:51 a.m. – Modesto Engine 27/Water Tender 27, Brush 28, and BC5 responded to a vegetation fire in the area of Cleveland Avenue and Valley Home Road. Brush 28 arrived on scene of a small roadside grass fire and quickly extinguished the fire. The responding balance was cancelled.

10:42 p.m. – Modesto Engine 28, Engine 29, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries on Highway 108 near Lovers Leap. Engine 29 arrived on scene with one vehicle off the roadway. The solo occupant of the vehicle was released AMA (Against Medical Advice) and the responding balance was cancelled.

 

TUESDAY, OCT. 8

Battalion 2: Fire Prevention Inspector Ciera Sansing and Engine 26 were presented with a proclamation from Riverbank Mayor O’Brien declaring October as Fire Prevention Month.

Battalion 5: Battalion 5 gave an orientation to the Oakdale High School fire science class on the command vehicle, including roles and responsibilities of each of our battalions.

4:53 p.m. – MST resources along with a full CalFire response were dispatched to the area of Highway 108 and Lovers Leap for a vegetation fire. OES4615 reported a grass fire on the north side of Highway 108 approximately one mile west of Lovers Leap. The fire was contained to a quarter-acre. Engine 28, Grass and Water Tender 27 assisted CalFire resources with mop up and all other MST resources were released.
