Oak Riv Fire Calls

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Oct. 3 through Monday, Oct. 9. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, OCT. 9

Battalion 5: Crews completed maintenance on apparatus and fire stations.

Modesto Engine 27 conducted a fire safety presentation for children at The Learning Tree in Oakdale.

 

SUNDAY, OCT. 8

Battalion 2: E23 and E26 attended Battalion Drills at Station 4.

Battalion 5: Engine 27 trained on hose stretches and pumping operations.

1:27 p.m. – Brush 29, Brush 28, Grass 27, Water Tender 27, Battalion 5 responded for a report of a vegetation fire south of Knights Ferry on the Willms ranch. Cal Fire TCU sent a full response to the incident with seven engines, two hand crews, bulldozer, and aircraft. Brush 29 arrived to find three to five acres with a moderate rate of spread. The fire was fully contained at 25 acres. Crews remained on scene throughout the night and will monitor for the next couple days.

 

SATURDAY, OCT. 7

Battalion 2: 10:40 p.m. – Brush 24, Grass 23, Grass 21, Brush 28, Engine 33 and Battalion 2 responded to Riverside Drive near Sean Court for a vegetation fire. Brush 24 located three separate fires on the bluff of the walking trail. Crews spent approximately 2½ hours containing the fire and completing mop-up. The fire was contained at 1.43 acres. FIU is investigating.

Battalion 5: Crews rotated through battalion training at the RFTC.

 

FRIDAY, OCT. 6

Battalion 2: E24, E26 and Q22 met for more Quint signoffs.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.

Companies trained on first in assignments, hoseline deployment and pump operations.

 

THURSDAY, OCT. 5

Battalion 2: E21, 24 and Q22 met at Station 23 and trained with the Paratech equipment.

E24 and E26 met with Q22 to work on Quint sign offs.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.

Crews trained on seven-month test preparation.

4:30 p.m. – Brush 28, Grass/Water Tender 27, Engine/Brush 29, Battalion 5 and Cal Fire responded to 26 Mile Road and Dodds for a vegetation fire. First arriving crews found 150 yards of roadside vegetation on fire with no threat to the wildland. Brush 28 remained on scene and the balance of the assignment was cancelled.

 

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 4

Battalion 2: All companies rotated through the quarterly EMS training as well as an orientation to the Paratech Struts that will be going on Quint 22.

Battalion 5: Crews completed the break-in process on the new water rescue boat. All three shifts have been working together to complete the manufacturer’s required 20-hour engine break-in process.

Crews rotated through quarterly EMS Training at Fire Station 22.

Apparatus checks and station maintenance was completed.

 

TUESDAY, OCT. 3

Battalion 2: 10:02 a.m. – Engine 26 responded for a vehicle fire in the area of Claribel Road and Terminal Avenue. They arrived to find a vehicle that was smoldering. There were obvious signs of arson. FIU was contacted and are investigating.

Battalion 5: 11:05 a.m. – Modesto Engine 29 and Stanislaus Engine 26 responded to a vegetation fire in the 13000 block of Valley Home Road. Engine 29 arrived with a vegetation fire that was approximately 25’x150’ along a ditch bank. The fire was quickly extinguished with no damage caused to property.

2:15 p.m. – Modesto Brush 29 and BC5 assisted Cal Fire on a vegetation fire near Knights Ferry in the State Response Area. Brush 29 arrived on scene with approximately two to three acres burning in light flashy fuel at a moderate rate of spread. Crews quickly started to mobile attack the fire while air resources helped contain the fire with water and fire-retardant drops. The fire had burned 12 acres by the time it was contained and did not damage any property.

3:31 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Brush 28, and BC5 responded to a vegetation fire at Claribel Road and Crow Road. Upon arrival there was a small roadside grass fire that Brush 28 extinguished.
