Amid some fanfare, the Oakdale Golf and Country Club unveiled its new pickleball courts at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, July 12, with Mayor Cherilyn Bairos among those in attendance. Along with making a few remarks, the mayor presented a Certificate of Recognition to OGCC officials on behalf of the City Council and the City of Oakdale.
The new facilities, which are primarily for club members and their guests, aim to cater to the growing popularity of pickleball in the region.
“The courts are an amenity for club members,” said PGA General Manager/COO of Oakdale Golf and Country Club, Mike Dowd. “However, we do plan to host tournaments and events that will be open to the public.”
The project, which began with architectural work and permitting about 18 months ago, broke ground in early April. The decision to include pickleball courts was driven by the sport’s increasing demand.
“Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America,” Dowd noted.
The COO also believes the new added attraction at the North Stearns Road location will draw a new group of people to the Oakdale Golf and Country Club, not just for the sport but also for the dining, social events, and other lifestyle activities.
