National Weather Service issues heat advisory

The Northern San Joaquin Valley will be under a heat advisory for much of the day on Saturday, June 22.

High temperatures of 100 to 107 degrees are expected, with the heat advisory in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday.

There will be limited overnight relief with low temperatures in the mid-60s to mid-70s.

The heat advisory covers the Central Sacramento Valley, Motherlode, Northern Sacramento Valley, Northern San Joaquin Valley, and Southern Sacramento Valley.

Forecasters remind residents that hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses. There will be widespread moderate heat risk with areas of major heat risk also anticipated. Warmest lows will be in the northern and central Sacramento Valley and foothills.

Recommended actions are to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly.
