Caution tape has been put up and signs posted clearly recommending people stay out of the Stanislaus River at Knights Ferry due to high river flows and cold temperatures. The local rivers are all running fast and cold because of the snow melt and officials are urging no one go into the river for boating or swimming anywhere along the Stanislaus. Several people visiting the Knights Ferry recreation area for the Memorial Day holiday weekend were enjoying cookouts and hiking, with most heeding the warning and staying on the rocks alongside the river, though a few still dared to wade in a short distance and one couple attempted a portion in a raft before pulling it out just below the covered bridge.
