An 18-year-old man was arrested by Oakdale Police for possessing a loaded handgun near the high school campus on Friday, Feb. 27 while students were out for the lunch break.
Police Sergeant Joe Johnson said he was in the area of the 1000 block of West F Street when he saw two subjects that appeared to be Norteno gang members due to red clothing identifiers walking east on F Street at the time of the OHS lunch break.
“They looked to be separate from the high school kids and they appeared to possibly be Norteno affiliated – red hat, red soled shoes,” Johnson said.
When Johnson contacted the subjects, one of them, Lonni Skye Beckmann, 18, of Oakdale, informed Johnson he had a locking blade knife in his pants pocket and moved to hand it over.
Johnson said he stopped Beckman, but had him raise the outer sweatshirt he was wearing.
When Beckmann raised the sweatshirt, Johnson said he saw a bulge in Beckmann’s waistband and the butt of a handgun protruding out.
The subjects were detained and additional Oakdale Police units responded.
Police recovered a Glock 30 .357 cal. pistol loaded with a magazine of bullets.
Further investigation revealed that the gun was stolen from a burglary in Oakdale earlier this month.
Beckmann was booked at Stanislaus County Jail for possession felony charges of carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in public, possession of a firearm within 1000 feet of a school, and possession of stolen property.
Johnson said the other subject, also 18, was released on a citation for possessing a small amount of marijuana.
