Looking for a local activity for the Fourth of the July? The Community Club’s annual Freedom Picnic is on July 4th at 6pm. The Club will provide hot dogs and punch and ask that each family bring a side dish or dessert to share. Then after dark, families can go to the Odd Fellows tennis court to light their safe and sane fireworks.

James Peterson attended the State Finals for High School Rodeo as a representative of District 5 participating in steer wrestling. James did a great job and placed eighth in the state for the year! Then a week later, he participated in the Oakdale Jr. rodeo where he participated in steer wrestling and chute dogging and won the all-around on Saturday.

The Voortman family have been celebrating the whole month of June! David Voortman was hired as the Dean of Kinesiology and Public Health and Athletic Director of Modesto Junior College and Dakota Voortman and Merek Boone announced their wedding engagement! David participated in a rigorous and lengthy hiring process including multiple interviews and acted as interim Dean and Athletic Director for MJC last year. Merek and Dakota met in high school at Big Valley Christian High School. Merek proposed to Dakota at Pfeiffer Beach in the Big Sur area.

Knights Ferry river rescues are on the rise. Last weekend a large group of people, though not injured, needed to be rescued by helicopter and rescue boat. It should serve as a reminder that the river flows may be fast and slow and it is very important to check the flow before going on the river! But above all, please wear a life jacket!

The last day to pick blueberries at our local U-Pick blueberry spot is June 28th. They are open daily from 6am-4pm at 15917 Sonora Road, Knights Ferry. Be sure to stock up, they freeze perfectly!
