The Garden Club went to lunch at the Fruit Yard and Duarte Nursery where they learned how to maintain plants through the winter. Their next meeting will be December 11th at Diane Boyer’s home for their Christmas meeting. The ladies will eat lunch together, bring unwrapped gifts to be gifted to local families and a gift to participate in a gift exchange.

At the last Oakdale Fire Protection District meeting, the board sent a letter to Modesto City Fire Department requesting service between both Knights Ferry and Valley Home stations. The Fire Department would share their time between the stations. The letter requested posting a responder from Oak Valley Ambulance to cover the opposite station. The bond that was approved five years ago did not include a cost-of-living increase and the cost of maintaining the Fire Stations exceeds the projected budget. Along with numerous community members, Supervisor Buck Condit, Oakdale Rural Fire Department, and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department were present for the meeting. I am grateful for our local fire department’s services, they respond to multiple calls on the highway, the river, and are the first line of protection to preserve our historic buildings in town!
