I had a local friend share an old Oakdale Leader newspaper article from Thursday, May 1st, 1902 about Henry Bailey who was severely burned due to a butane blast that wrecked his cabin in downtown Knights Ferry. The blast hurled Bailey about 20 feet outside his cabin and fatally injured his dog. Witness, Donald Shuper hurried to the firehouse to secure the unit to put out the fire. Bailey was taken to the hospital in Oakdale and then transferred to Modesto. When people share these historical articles from over a century ago, it reignites my excitement about the local history and how important it is to document events in Knights Ferry so that maybe in another century, people will read about events that happened in our time!
