Heat advisory issued for Valley area

The arrival of October will also bring with it a heat advisory, which will be in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 through 11 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Issued by the National Weather Service in Sacramento, the affected area in the Northern San Joaquin Valley covers the Carquinez Strait and Delta, Sacramento Valley, Northern San Joaquin Valley, and the foothills.

Forecasters are predicting hot temperatures, from 97 to 106 degrees expected during the day, with warm overnight lows in the 60s to mid-70s.

Heat related illnesses will be possible, especially for groups that are sensitive to heat.

Widespread moderate heat risk is expected across the Valley and Delta, with major heat risk in the foothills. This level of heat may impact outdoor activities.

Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on elderly relatives and neighbors.
