Officials with the Modesto Fire Department – covering the stations in Oakdale – responded to a couple of different calls on Monday, including a potential water rescue and a fatal industrial accident.
Following are reports filed with the Battalion Commander.
Monday, Aug. 26, 4:23 p.m.
Stanislaus E26, Modesto Truck 1 and Battalion 5 responded to reports of a rescue on Homewood Way in Riverbank. Stanislaus Battalion 2 was also in the area and responded. Battalion 5 requested Modesto Rescue 28 and Rescue 11 and Engine 9. Crews arrived on scene and found a patient trapped in the mechanism of a garbage truck. Patient was declared deceased by a paramedic on Engine 9. Stanislaus Sheriff and OSHA were on scene investigating.
Monday, Aug. 26, 7:51 p.m.
Modesto Water Rescue 28, Engine 30 and Battalion 5 responded to Woodward Reservoir for reports of stranded boaters. Crews made access and located the boat. It had possibly struck a sand bar and rendered it out of service. The boat was also taking on water. One person had already swum to shore. Water Rescue 28 ferried the remaining boater to shore and was able to tow the boat to shore on the second trip out. No injuries reported.
