Four more astronomy nights remaining on 2024 schedule

The popular Astronomy Night programs offered through the Stockton Astronomical Society, in cooperation with Oak Grove Docent Council and San Joaquin County Parks, continue once a month through the end of this year.

Remaining dates are the second Saturday in October and November; the first Saturday in September and December. All events are offered at Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park, at I-5 and Eight Mile Road, Stockton. The event itself is free, but there is a $6 cash parking fee at the park.

This is an opportunity to view planets through giant telescopes after sunset; all ages are welcome.

On Saturday, Sept. 7, the viewing begins at 7:25 p.m. and features Saturn, M13 (Star Cluster), and M57 (Ring Nebula). The Saturday, Oct. 12 program starts at 6:30 p.m., featuring Star Cluster in Hercules, Dumbbell Nebula.

Saturday, Nov. 9 at 5 p.m., view Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, M31 (Andromeda Galaxy: and close out the 2024 calendar year with a Saturday, Dec. 7 program at 4:45 p.m., viewing Saturn, Mars, M33 (Triangulum Galaxy).
