Oak Grove Regional Park at I-5 and Eight-Mile Road, Stockton, will be the site for several Astronomy in the Park events this year.
The Stockton Astronomical Society, Oak Grove Docent Council and San Joaquin County Parks host the events, which are free and staged weather permitting. There is a $6 cash parking fee at Oak Grove.
The first event is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20 at 5:15 p.m.; view The Pleiades, Saturn and The Hyades. The viewing is done through giant telescopes after sunset.
All shows are scheduled on Saturday evenings.
Orion Nebula, Perseus Double Cluster will be viewed on Feb. 17 at 5:45 p.m.; The Pleiades, Mercury and Perseus Double Cluster will be featured on March 16 at 7:15 p.m.
On April 13 at 7:40 p.m., view Jupiter, M81 and M82 (Bodes Galaxies); on May 18 at 8:15 p.m., M13 and M92 (Star Cluster in Hercules) will be the subject for viewing. Then, on June 15 at 8:30 p.m., Star Cluster, Whirlpool Galaxy takes center stage.
