Oakdale High School campus monitor Matt Roy cradles a hummingbird in his cap after successfully capturing the fluttering bird that was unable to find its way out of the OHS hallways recently. Also assisting in the effort was fellow campus monitor Julie Longworth, who used a broom to guide the hummingbird down to a lower window pane, where Roy was able to collect it and then set it free in a courtyard out a side door on the West G Street campus. “We do all kinds of things here,” Longworth said with a chuckle, referring to Roy as the ‘bird whisperer.’
