Soroptimist International of Oakdale is 9inviting the community to come together on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Gene Bianchi Community Center in Oakdale for their Designer Bag Bingo fundraiser.

With the purchase of a ticket, attendees will receive 10 bingo cards, each allowing them the chance to win a designer bag valued anywhere from $245 to $500.

“The tickets are $50, and with your entry ticket, you receive ten bingo tickets for a chance to win ten designer bags which have been donated,” Ruth Bright, Chair of the Designer Bag Bingo committee and Chair of the fundraiser committee for Soroptimist International of Oakdale, said.

On top of the 10 bingo games, with one car used per game, Soroptimist International of Oakdale is offering both an auction and raffle with various prizes. Some of these prizes include a six-night, seven-day timeshare in Las Vegas and an overnight stay at the Black Oak Casino Hotel.

With the goal of “providing women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment,” Soroptimist International of Oakdale brings many different scholarships for women and girls to Oakdale High School as well as some programs – such as Dream it, Be It – for neighboring communities Riverbank and Escalon.

“We give Oakdale High School scholarships and awards for educational purposes, such as our Live Your Dream Award, and we have S Club scholarships. S Club is a club that is part of Oakdale High School, and Soroptimist International of Oakdale provides the sponsorship for it,” Bright explained.

S Club “is run by high school students completely; it is a high school service club, giving kids the opportunity to learn leadership skills and service the community,” added Bright.

The funds raised from Designer Bag Bingo and other events by Soroptimist International of Oakdale allow them to continue sponsoring S Club and provide more scholarships and support for students.

With this fundraiser being the first of its kind for Soroptimist International of Oakdale, Bright said their goal was “to do something different and something fun.”

Add in to the mix, Oakdale Mayor Cher Bairos serving as the official Bingo Caller, Bright said fun is definitely on the table for Designer Bag Bingo.

Bright urged attendees to “just come have fun and be excited to yell ‘Bingo!’.”
