Oakdale Police partnered with the State of California Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) to conduct underage alcohol decoy operations as part of National Shoulder Tap Operation, resulting in two arrests.

On Saturday, March 10, officers utilized underage decoys to stand outside locations licensed to sell alcohol and contact people in front of the stores. The decoys told people they were under 21 years old and asked them to buy beer for them.

The operation was part of a grant funded education and enforcement campaign to raise awareness and prevent underage alcohol use. The goals of the program are to reduce underage consumption of, and access to, alcohol by deterring adults from furnishing to them outside of licensed premises, and to raise public awareness about the problem. As a result of the Oakdale operation, two individuals were arrested and released with citations promising to make a future court appearance for charges of furnishing alcoholic beverages to a minor.

The Oakdale Police Department and State of California Alcohol Beverage Control are committed to raising public awareness and safety in the community. Local operations throughout the state were funded by the State of California Alcoholic Beverage Control through the department’s Grant Assistance Program (GAP), and by the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). ABC is a Department of the Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency.
