A 41-year-old Modesto woman sustained major injuries on Saturday morning, Aug. 13 in connection with an ATV accident in the Knights Ferry area.

According to the California Highway Patrol, they received a report of a traffic collision on Sonora Road, just north of Kennedy Road at about 12:20 a.m. Saturday. When emergency personnel arrived on scene, the found a woman – later identified as Kelly Ann Eakin of Modesto – lying in the roadway. An ATV was at rest just north of the scene.

Eakin, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was transported to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto by air ambulance.

CHP officials said the preliminary investigation indicates Eakin was riding a 2022 Honda ATV northbound on Sonora Road, just north of Kennedy Road. For an unknown reason, Eakin fell off the ATV, causing her head to impact the asphalt road. The ATV continued in a northerly direction before coming to a stop. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident.
