Cowboy Christmas, window decorating for community
windows

A longstanding Oakdale tradition and some holiday cheer are due in the Cowboy Capital.

First, if you are looking for that special gift for someone on your list, make plans to get out and enjoy Cowboy Christmas, set for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 29 and 30 at the Gene Bianchi Community Center and Oakdale Town Plaza at 110 S. Second Ave., Oakdale. It’s the 31st year for this Oakdale tradition, which features unique Western arts and craft exhibitors, food, visits with Santa and more.

Friday hours are 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with Cowboy Santa coming in for visits and photos from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Sponsored by the Oakdale Cowboy Museum, the free family event offers a little bit of something for everyone.

Also, looking to get local businesses into the holiday spirit, Love Oakdale is sponsoring a Christmas Window Decorating Contest, open to all businesses in the community. Voting is scheduled to take place Nov. 22 through Dec. 6 so businesses need to get that decorating done now. Winners will be announced at the Small Town Christmas Tree Lighting event set for Saturday, Dec. 7.

First through third place prizes will be awarded, all donated by Love Oakdale. First place receives a burger lunch or dinner for their entire staff from Backwoods Burgers; second place is coffee and pastries for the entire office staff from Refuge Coffee and third place is a cookie party for the entire office staff from The Bake Shop at Bloomingcamp Ranch.
