Each year, the area’s Blue Line Wives organization picks a family to support through fundraising – and June 19 will mark the third year of this philanthropic tradition at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club.
The goal is to be able to reach out when a tragedy strikes local law enforcement (such as correctional officers, police, or highway patrol) or “whenever one of the families needs help, we do a fundraiser to help them out,” board member Sonia Rush of Blue Line Wives explained.
Later this month, Saturday, June 19 will feature a day full of golf, dinner, a raffle, auction, and dancing to help benefit Liam Cuellar, the son of a local law enforcement officer, as he battles cancer, as well as raising funds to donate to The Hero Package Foundation.
Blue Line Wives officials described the Cuellar family as people with a “heart to help all in need” and explained that proceeds from the benefit will go directly to the family “to assist with medical, transportation, and housing costs incurred throughout Liam’s treatment.” Liam’s father, Romel Cuellar, is a veteran who has worked locally with Modesto Police Department and currently is a sergeant with the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office.
Moreover, a portion of the money raised will go to The Hero Package Foundation, an organization that delivers Hero care packages to children battling cancer.
As for the fundraiser itself, Rush commented that it is “easy to donate and you get a day of golf out of it ... everything we make that day will help Liam’s family and cancer treatments.”
The event is open to the public with about 50 spots still available for golfers to purchase and plenty of dinner tickets still up for sale, with the dinner tickets priced at $50 each.
The Blue Line Wives organization spans a large portion of California including the Central Valley and Bay Area. The non-profit is a support group for partners of law enforcement officers and they “provide front line support and resources that will increase the health and security of all law enforcement and their families.”
