Book your appointment now to get your dog or cat microchipped, with a low-cost microchip event scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 19.

Being hosted at ASTRO, 157 N. Fifth Ave., Oakdale, the ASTRO Foundation is teaming up with Family Veterinary Care of Oakdale to provide the low-cost microchip event for community pets.

The Animal Shelter To Riverbank and Oakdale, ASTRO, will receive $2 from every chip registered, which will benefit the rescue pets being cared for through the Foundation.

Cost is $10 for the microchip and lifetime registration. Valid for dogs and cats only. Pets must be four months of age or older and a proof of current rabies vaccination is required. Cats must be brought in carriers; dogs must be on a leash.

Officials note that pets with microchips are 50 percent more likely to be returned home if lost.
