Average gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 5.1 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.51/gallon on Oct. 14, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Prices in Modesto are 20.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 82.1 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has declined 3.4 cents in the last week and stands at $3.57 per gallon - the lowest level since January, 2022, over 900 days ago.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $3.75/gallon while the most expensive was $5.09, a difference of $1.34/gallon. The lowest price in the state on Oct. 14 was $3.69 while the highest was $6.79, a difference of $3.10/gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has risen 3.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.16/gallon. The national average is unchanged from a month ago and stands 41.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $4.51/gallon, down 2.2 cents from last week’s $4.53; Oakland - $4.76, down 4.0 cents from $4.80; and San Jose - $4.71/gallon, down 3.2 cents per gallon from last week’s $4.75/gallon.

Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back ten years show the highest Oct. 14 price in Modesto was $6.02 per gallon in 2022 and the lowest price of $2.58 per gallon was recorded in 2016. Highest Oct. 14 U.S. average was $3.90 in 2022, lowest was $2.17 per gallon in 2020.
