Alvarado-Gil, McGuire meet with county leaders

State Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (D-Jackson) hosted Senate Leader Mike McGuire (D-North Coast) for a full day of collaboration and engagement with diverse stakeholders and residents in Stanislaus County on May 17. The events were aimed at elevating the issues and interests of the district, and saw a large turnout from the community, local elected officials, and experts in the agriculture, water, real estate, insurance, and labor sectors.

“I have known Pro Tem McGuire for two decades and believe he is the epitome of a hardworking, boots on the ground, and gritty representative of the people,” stated Senator Alvarado-Gil. “I’m grateful the Pro Tem has a strong understanding of rural communities and was willing to spend his whole day learning and engaging with my constituents in Stanislaus County.”

The day began with a roundtable meeting featuring local elected leaders, accompanied by a presentation from Stanislaus 2030, which emphasized the need to address the childcare shortage in Stanislaus County and making the region a manufacturing hub with a highly skilled and trained workforce. BEAM Circular presented on a groundbreaking initiative to transform waste into bio-industrial manufacturing in Stanislaus County to significantly cut down on environmental pollution. The Senator also hosted a Leaders in Agriculture Luncheon with representatives from the Stanislaus County Farm Bureau, the largest farm bureau in the state. Water district leaders also participated in the roundtable to discuss crucial issues including water rights and sustainability, pest control management, and environmental regulation. Rounding out the day was a discussion on the housing and insurance industries with the Modesto and Stanislaus Latino Chambers of Commerce. Attendees received updates from the Senator and Pro Tem on legislative efforts addressing housing, property insurance, and business challenges, followed by a facilitated roundtable discussion.

The Senators, along with their staffs, plan to ensure the concerns brought up during each meeting will help inform decision and policymaking at the State Capitol.

Senator Alvarado-Gil represents the Fourth Senate District including the counties of Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Inyo, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Mono, Nevada, Placer, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne.
