The Oakdale High School Theater Program has returned for the 2023-2024 school year with their fall show The Addams Family. Opening night is just around the corner, with shows starting in October: 7pm shows on Friday the 13th, Saturday the 14th, Friday the 20th, and Saturday the 21st; and 2pm matinees on Sunday the 15th and Sunday the 22nd.
Director of The Addams Family as well as Oakdale High School’s Drama program, Lezlie Acker, commented, “This show has been at the top of my list of high school plays to produce for several years, but when I looked at the calendar for 2023 and saw Friday, October the 13th, I knew instantly that we had to do this show, and that we had to open on Friday the 13th. It couldn’t be more perfect.
“The Addams Family has always been about poking fun at the macabre, but this story goes beyond that with a heartfelt message about the power of strong family bonds, honesty, love and embracing individuality.”
Assisting with the production of The Addams Family is Oakdale native and Broadway talent Colleen Hawkes, who is aiding with teaching vocals to the cast. Additional directing comes from Emily Frantz, who has been in charge of choreography, and graduate Gabriella McDonald, who has helped with additional vocal coaching.
All are welcome to join in for a night of turmoil, romance, secrets, truths, and morbid fascinations with death ... and life. As Wednesday Addams falls in love with a normal boy, Lucas Beineke, she makes the decision to keep it a secret from her family until the night that they meet him, causing chaos in the Addams Family home as the families meet, and secrets are revealed. This rendition of the Addams Family, based on the US Tour version of the play, is a musical filled with heart, as well as laughs, with a two-hour runtime.
