Help empower local women and girls by attending and contributing to this fall’s American Association of University Women (AAUW), Oakdale, Riverbank, Escalon Branch’s FUNd-raiser, set for Thursday evening, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m.
Your donations will send up to 10 incoming eighth grade girls from Oakdale, Riverbank and Escalon to next summer’s week long Tech Trek STEM Camp, provide college scholarships for two Tech Trek alums graduating from high school in the spring, offer cash prizes to this year’s winners of the AAUW Speech Trek Contest and provide a stipend so one of the former scholarship recipients can attend the AAUW National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL) in May where they can hone their leadership skills, make lifelong connections, and get ready to shape the world.
This year’s fundraiser is a bit lower key: a combination of the goodwill donation process and a small auction. There will be an assortment of themed baskets or experiences, which supporters can bid on. Attendees can bid on the “Delicious Taco Basket” by Williams Sonoma, or the “Deluxe Charcuterie and More Basket”. If music is more to your liking you might want to bid on four tickets to hear The Alex Lucero Band, originally from Oakdale, at the Gallo Center in February. In lieu of or in addition to bidding on auction items, backers can make a goodwill donation to AAUW, O.R.E. Branch’s Special Funds Projects or specifically to the Tech Trek Summer Camp.
Checks made out to “AAUW” and indicating “Special Funds Budget” in the memo will be earmarked for the Branch’s activities as described above. These donations are not tax deductible.
Checks made to “AAUW CA SPF”, must include “Tech Trek/Fresno/ORE Branch” in the memo line. These donations are tax deductible, as allowable by law.
Donations can be mailed to: AAUW, Oakdale, Riverbank, Escalon Branch, P.O. Box 2367, Oakdale, CA 95361.
All those throughout the area are invited to join the local AAUW at the Escalon Library, 1540 Second St., Escalon starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14. In person attendees will get to meet several former Tech Trek campers and listen to how their Tech Trek experience is influencing their future. Come for an evening of fun, enjoy some snacks and empower young women. For more information, email gmarganelli@att.net.
