As a regional grocer and a company dedicated to serving their communities, Raley’s mobilized their resources to support the fire relief efforts during the Carr Fire earlier this summer. Between July 23 and Sept. 4, 2018, the Carr Fire burned more than 220,000 acres in Shasta and Trinity counties in Northern California. Making national headlines, the fire hit very close to home for the Raley’s organization, with many employees and customers impacted by the fires and not only forced evacuate, but in many cases, have had no home to return to.
At multiple Raley’s locations, customers and team members were asked to donate and support at the checkstand. Raley’s, in partnership with their team members and customers, raised $170,634.13 for the Shasta Regional Community Foundation and their Community Disaster Relief Fund.
“We understand the devastation that comes with wild fires and our team organized quickly to support our community with the resources needed most,” said Becca Whitman, Community Relations Manager, Raley’s & Executive Director, Raley’s Food For Families. “Without participation from customers across the company footprint, a donation of this magnitude would not have been possible.”
During the fires, Raley’s mobilized to aid in the immediate relief efforts, providing food and water to nearby shelters and first responders. Along with the financial assistance and donations, Raley’s offered residents, returning to their homes after being evacuated, a 10 percent discount in-store, for a two-week period to help restock their shelves.
