John Edmund Vander Plaats and Melanie Rae Hanlon of Escalon have announced their plans to wed as husband and wife.

The couple is planning a September 2011 wedding. They announced their engagement in Des Moines, Washington earlier this month.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Lonny L. and Vanessa Hanlon. Faith Ann Streeter and Steven Marcus Hanlon are her siblings. She is currently attending Modesto Junior College for an Associate of Arts in General Studies with an emphasis in Humanities, A.A. in Transfer Studies, A.A. in Behavioral and Social Sciences. She is employed by the Girl Scouts Heart of Central California in Modesto as an Outreach Leader.

The prospective groom is the son of Glenn and Monica (Stacy) Vander Plaats. His sibling is Jamie L. Vander Plaats. He has earned his Basic and Advanced Heavy Equipment Technician Certificate from Modesto Junior College. He is employed by Kragen/O’Reilly Auto Parts in Escalon.
