Archie and Barbara Hallum celebrated 62 years of marriage on May 21, 2011.
The couple met in Tracy, where Barbara was attending Tracy High School, Class of ’51. Archie was in the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. The couple was married in 1949 at the Glad Tidings Church in Reno, Nevada.
Archie first worked as general manager for the Williams Hatchery and Turkey Breeding Farms, starting in 1958. They had three children at that time. Their last child was born in 1959 at the old Oakdale Hospital on Eucalyptus.
The couple owned “Archie’s Old World Delicatessen” in McHenry Village in Modesto for three years. They sold the business and Archie accepted the job of general manager for Longmont Foods in Longmont, Colorado, where they spent 14 years. They later moved back “home” to Oakdale and have lived here for the past 18-plus years.
Barbara was born in Oakland and is an active member of Native Daughters of the Golden West, Oakdale Parlor #125.
Their four children attended Oakdale schools and include, Lonney Hallum and wife Lynn of Modesto, Linda (Hallum) Shafer and husband Lee of Modesto, Kathy (Hallum) Texeira and husband Larry of Waterford and Nancy (Hallum) Bowen and husband Jim of Oakdale.
They also have eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
